This Fall, we're opening restaurant. To read a full story from The Thomasville Townie just go here. We know many people will have questions, so we wanted a chance to try and answer the most common ones. Please check out our FAQ below, but if you still have questions please email us at info@sweetgrassdairy.com and we'll be happy to help!
Are you opening a restaurant?
Yes! We will have a stand-alone restaurant this Fall.
What will happen to the Cheese Shop?
It is NOT closing. It will remain in its current location and we plan to expand our retail product selection to offer more for our loyal customers. Additionally, we’ll be adding new coolers for take-away cold wine and beer. Our Mail Order operation will take over the back end of the retail shop. This will make everything in the Cheese Shop (with the exception of alcohol) available to ship anywhere in the Continental U.S. Finally, we’ll have a new Mail Order website available for 24-hour ordering.
Where will the restaurant be located?
We are taking over the building at 123 South Broad St., Thomasville GA 31792. Or, in the space currently known as Grassroots Coffee.
4. What will the restaurant be named?
That’s currently being worked on right now. As soon as we figure it out, we promise we’ll let everyone know!
5. Can I still get my weekly glass of wine and cheese board?
YES! We are extremely honored by the amount of people who come each and every week to enjoy what we have to offer. We don’t want to lose that and we’re planning to incorporate many elements of the current Cheese Shop’s food service into the restaurant. Our layout plan for the building includes a bar area with comparable seating. So, if you want to come in with a group of friends to grab a drink and a small plate - you’ll still be able to do that. In fact, we encourage it!
6. When will this take place?
It’s happening right now! We’re currently working on all of the planning for each of the three businesses. It’s quite the process, but we’re aiming to have everything launched by late Fall.
7. Are you going to hire a chef?
Yes. The plan is to have a core Kitchen Team led a strong individual who will work together with our Owners to develop a menu and source ingredients. This person will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and will have significant influence on the overall restaurant. We’re currently in the process of searching for and interviewing candidates.
8. Will you be hiring other positions?
Yes. A restaurant requires a small, dedicated army of people to make sure everything functions properly. We encourage you to check out our social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, E-Newsletter) for details on the positions once they’re open.
9. Is the restaurant going to be ‘fine-dining’?
In a word - no. We are striving to create a place that is family-friendly while also providing a spot where Mom and Dad can indulge in tasty food, creative drinks, and fabulous customer service. We want anyone who loves food to come and no matter if you’re in flip-flops or a business suit - we want you to walk away with a smile on your face.
10. What will be on the menu?
In a sentence - we’re still working on it. We’re aiming to highlight other handcrafted producers and to have carefully selected items meant to maximize flavor. We want our restaurant to be ‘ingredient-driven’ and we want to work with local producers as much as we can, but even more importantly we want to work with people that share our same philosophy. We do anticipate the menu changing seasonally and we are planning to offer weekly plus innovative nightly specials whenever we can.
11. Will you have cocktails?
Yes. We’re in the process of developing handcrafted cocktails that parallel our food menu. In addition, we’ll continue to showcase a great wine selection and a fantastic craft beer line-up. Our beverage program will echo many of the same elements you see now – unique selections from throughout the world coupled with cool finds that get us excited and provide our customers with a memorable experience.
12. What will happen to your wine/cheese tastings?
They’re not going anywhere. We’ll still have them, however they will be located at the Cheese Shop. We’re planning to offer the in-depth tastings we currently have, but we’re also hoping to expand these events on a weekly basis in a more relaxed and affordable setting. Plus, our Cheese Shop will be available for an array of private events including showers, birthday parties, etc. We’re excited to offer even more educational and fun experiences at the Cheese Shop including themed events like chocolate/beer tastings, honey/wine/cheese tastings, or a tea/cheese tasting. The possibilities are endless.
* We don’t anticipate any major events happening at the restaurant for at least the first six months. We want to make sure we work out any kinks and provide an amazing experience for our customers. *
13. Will I be able to have a glass of wine or a pint at the Cheese Shop?
Unfortunately, no. Our restaurant will have a full wine and beer menu plus a cocktail list. At the Cheese Shop, you’ll still be able to taste small samples of wine or beer before you buy, but outside of events, full glasses won’t be available. However, expanding our retail space does allow us the ability to add a cooler for cold craft beer and wine ‘to-go’ for all your gatherings.
